Ok... I just recieved my new 90 g AGA tank with overflow...the lfs designed this system for me...my problem I think is the pump. He sold me a 2400 gph pump. Not only is the thing noisy but the current is so strong any tropical fish I put in it I am afraid would be smashed against the opposite side of the tank and any plants would be leafless in minutes (slight over exageration) but it is seriously picking up substrate and moving it...and this is with the water being directed accross the surface and to the furthest glass wall. My head is about 5 foot and in looking up pump specs this pump does about 1800 gph at this hieght.
Am hoping this guy made a serious mistake in selling this pump to me for this tank...but am thinking maybe there is something I am not understanding about this. Would like to know before I go in looking the fool tomorrow telling him this pump is wrong....my desire is for this tank to be a freshwater tank with plants. Not a jacuzzi for a toddler.

2400gph? That's way extreme for a freshwater tank. Maybe the LFS thought you were doing a salt water tank. Can the pump you have work with back pressure? If so you could but a valve on the return to slow the flow a bit. Other wise you really need to take that pump back and get something is around the 600gph range.

Thank you for your response. I did go back to LFS and they showed me where AGA shows in their brochere that with my sump it was a correct selection. Thankfully they agree this is too extreme and are going to investigate and get me a more appropriate pump, I just have to wait 4 to 7 days :(. But I suppose what is a little more time....nothing compared to the length of time I will have on cycling the tank I am sure. But that for another thread....again appreciate the response....I hated to go back and say something if it was just my ignorance.

yea, that's def. overkill. 600 would do the trick nicely, and you could get away with less if you wanted to IMO
