i have four tanks running right now and i just tested the water in my 27g and my 10g. Both have ph around 7.0 and when I checked the 27 for ammonia, it was fine but then the 10g test turned bright purple. I washed the tube and tried again and again, bright purple. I have no idea what that means. I expect yellow if there is a problem. Can anybody tell me what this purple means and if I need to do something quick if it is a crisis. Thank you very much. Most greatful

1. What brand of test kit are you using?
2. If it is a master kit are you using the correct bottle? (please do not take offense, I work in client support and deal with people make simple mistakes all of the time.)

It could be that the testing agent you are using has gotten old. If purple is not one of the colors on the chart, is there a color similar.

You may want to take a sample to the LFS and have them test it and see what they get.

Nitrite test in Aquarium Phamacuticals kit turns purple... (only in the resense of nitrite of course...) could there have been a mix up?
I think puffernewbie had a good idea about getting the lfs to double check.
