Python and Water Treatment

Hello everyone,

I just bought a python no-spill, and I had a concern. How does this work out for water treatment? If you're using this to fill the tank straight from the tap, wouldn't that introduce chlorine/chloramine into the tank? Is that not harmful for the fish?

How do people who are using pythons accommodate this? Should I fill an alternate tank to treat the water, and then transfer from there? If I do that, doesn't that defeat the purpose of the python?

Thanks

Yeah, I was really worried about this myself, but have never had an issue when doing just that, I actually fill the cap for the prime, and as soon as the water comes out of the Python, I dump it in to mix with the stream.

I dose for total tank volume right before I begin refilling. I have heard that the chemical works very quickly to treat the water.

I dose for tank volume AS I'm adding the water.

This question pops up frequently. Possible sticky or article topic?

Just wondering: why would you need to dose Prime for the entire volume of the tank? There would be no chloramines in the tank to start. It would only be the amount introduced with the fresh tap water. Dosing for the entire tank would be over-dosing. You can do that safely with Prime, but it is more costly.
