PYthon NO spill and FILL

I got a regular gravel vacume for my 20 gallon, using the finger over tube trick it is very easy,

but 50% water changes do require multiple buckets :(

What I don't understand with the python is...

When you are filling up the tank, how to you mix in the dechlorinator and also how to you adjust the temperature of the water to match what is currently in your tank?

I don't have a kitchen sink just a bathroom...When I fill my buckets I fill them in the bathtub and use an IR Thermometer to make sure the corect temp is running out of the faucit, then I check it again before I dump the ater into the tank. can usualy get it within a degree if not dead on which is probably more than enough.

But I have to scoup the water out of the bucket 1/2 gallon at a time untill the tanks is full or the bucket is light enough to dump in with one hand. using my modified Plastic container it dripps all over my wood desk and wood floor, but I can mop it up pretty easy. I can't put the bucket higher than the tank so I don't think the siphoning it into the tank would work very well.

word of caution

I use a python and its great but keep an eye on it . i had cleaned the gravel and left it to drain more water. came back 10 mins later to check and water level didnt seem to be going down ..after a little investigating i found my 3 inch clown loach sucked up to the hose connector thing  he didnt make it ...............
its a great product but use it wisely. i will figure out a screen for it before i will let it run with out watching it

If the syphon thing that goes on the sink breaks then just go to walmart and but a waterbed fill/drain kit. The piece is exactly the same even made buy the same company (look at who makes the fill/drain piece for python its says blue something on it same as who makes the water bed one) Its only 4 bucks or something like that.
If your concerned about water waste then just start a syphon out the door outside then you waste no water on the draining and just hook up the hose to the sink to fill it back up.

That's a great idea as far as turning the water off. I guess you could use a regular vacuum to do the gravel. With a planted tank I usually go lightly on the vacuuming anyway. Clean water . . . you would be amazed if you knew the percentage (I forget it now but it's huge) of how many people in world live over a mile away from a pure water supply. Off topic but we also had very sporadic electricity in Mongolia. When I came back it took me months to stop being amazed that the lights went on EVERY TIME I turned on the switch and the water came out of the faucet HOT EVERY TIME.

I am thinking of upgrading to a 75G when we move and a python would make it so much easier. Maybe I'll have to do a bit more research into how this could be workable as to appease my conscience.

Disclaimer: I'm a great water conserver and a lousy recycler, hey noone's perfect.

I feel I get greater suction by using my Python as a normal siphon to the flower beds/outside and not wasting water through the faucet attachment that works like an eductor. If you have the on/off valve assembly, be leary of how long you leave it in the off position with full pressure from the tap applied. Sometimes household pressure can be too high and spray from loose worn connections, especially at the sink. Some replacement parts...

Wouldn't trade mine, it makes short work of water changes.

I use netting over the end of mine with an elastic to hold it. The holes are about 1/8", big enough to suck up stuff and not get clogged, small enough that fish can't get in.

So all I do is start it up and then come here and read for a while :)

Roan, can you answer my question?

or Anyone? I still don't get it.

add the conditioner for the total amount of water you'll add and then pour water in near where you dumped the conditioner--keep it away from your filter so you don't have a bacterial die off

A python is basically a hose that connects to ur faucet with at "T" connector. When you have it in drain mode, you turn the faucet on and a sucktion force is created which draws water out of the tank and into the drain. Now when your filling the tank, just play with the hot and cold water untill the temp is just about the same as you tank. When you put it in filling mode, the water goes into your tank. As far as the chemicals go, you can add them directly to the tank a little bit at a time and your fish should be fine. .... Experts, correct me if im wrong :thm:
