I'm looking into trying the Python No Spill & Fill kit.

Has anyone used this before? Does it waste water when filling the aquarium? I heard it wastes quite a bit of water when draining.

Any comments or feedback, please.

While I haven't used one, I've heard that they're great.

In fact, I'm looking into getting one so I don't have to keep running with my 5 gal bucked & my new 55 gal tank!

Saw the 25 ft version at Wal-Mart for like $25.00

it does waste water when you drain, as it creates suction by running water through the special valve.

However, it is so worth it. It cuts down on all mess, and it makes water changes a pleasure instead of a dreadful task.

When draining it uses water flow from the tap to pull from the tank so yes, there is 'fresh' water being used to pull the stale water from the tank - I am more than willing to accept this with the offest of the complete lack of spillage, carrying buckes back and forth and the lack of tank gargle opportunities.

The only thing to be careful of is complacency. DO NOT walk away from either the active drain or fill - it always takes longer than you think and when you come back you have one of two issues (depending on the water flow at the time you leave!)

If you're going to use it for gravel vacuuming, two factors make a huge difference in how much suction you get out of it.

1. the height difference between the tank water and the faucet
2. the water pressure out of the faucet

I took this into consideration before buying mine and I'm glad I did. I have to run mine out to the garden faucet to get enough suction for effective vacuuming.

It is a great tool for large or multiple aquarium maintenance.

I have a 30' with a 24" tube and I LOVE it. Dunno what I would do without it.

I agree about walking away during draining, it's easy for a fish to get caught in the Python. However, one of my corycats did (while I was watching no less) and he easily swam "downstream" until I lifted it and let him out.

As for filling, anything over 20g and 50% I can walk away from. I just make sure the stream is the lowest it can be to fill the tank. IME it's better than way anyhow as you don't want to cause *too* much current in the tank.

i have one and don't use it as much.

because i need to treat the water before filling the tank, so i still see myself doing the bucket carring stuff.

i do use it to drain, however since my window is closer i suck on the tube and let the tube out the window. pretty slow but it works for me. it gives me time to pay around trimming plants or taking filters apart.

one question for you guys.

how do you fill the tank with out treating the water? or do you fill the tank first then treat it in the tank?
