whats up everybody!

lately the stocks on my lillies keep on growing even after the buds hit the surface. This results in long, twining stocks that eventually sink the bud, taking away the bloom. Is this normal? I usually only get two days out of a single flower before it is submersed again. Any info is appreciated. Thanka you in advance

Well, do you have your lillies planted in deep enough water? They should optimally be planted in a depth of 60-100 cm.

It should be plenty deep enough then. Got me then. Mine have never done that but I have seen water lillies in the wild grow like that.

It may just be the variety of lily. Some of them, particularly tropical varieties have flowers that stand up out of the water. A number of the hardy varieties do it as well. A lily bloom only lasts 2-3 days at very most.

I see. I added a small handfull of crushed coral to see if it was a calcium deficiency (we have very soft water over here) and so far the results are looking good. my last bloom stood straight out and is still there today with only a slight droop. Thanks everybody for the posts!

lillies can be wierd i think. I live in michigan and have a 1000 gal pond that is only 2 feet deep. I bought a few lillies at the local home dumpster store. I have had them about 3 years and the packaging said to pull them out in the winter or they will die ?? well i am lazy and never have and my pond freezes solid in the winter. but my lillies seem to do great they double in size every year and bloom like crazy. just a thought i guess. hey also, i fished out my goldfish last fall, but missed a few....well anyways i just noticed that i have a few in there from last year, now i know this pond froze like a rock last winter. can gold fish survive such a thing....i find this very very wierd......sorry bro i dont mean to hijack your thread..

hey by the way my lillies are just your run of the mill stuff and mine have also bloomed and grown up to 6 inch off the water, to the point that they bend over from the weight and hang face first in the water...i know it's wierd...but mine do it from time to time....
