Q-tank question

well ive got my sick angel (i think he has a swim bladder infection) in a quarantine tank of sorts.... its a 5 gallon rubbermaid tub with a spare aquaclear 500 HOB on the back and a heater. my question is, is that enough flow as far as aerating (spelling?) the tank?? cuz i dont have an air pump for it... ive medicated him with maracyn two.. he seems to be scared, and is sitting in the bottom corner of the tank. i put a couple of old mugs in there and a sour cream tub for him to hide if he wants....

any more suggestion would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

you'll rarely here me saying this, but thats alot of current. trying to find something to blunt the force of it in a spot for him/her would be a good thing probably. maybe an open glass container of some sort? (so he/she can retreat into it if the current gets overwhelming.)

it should be more than enuf aeration tho.

if you check around your lfs in the area you might be able to find a basic starter kit. 10g tank and everything you need to run it for around $20, around here they do it. the inadequate stuff they give you for the kit should be enuf for a q-tank........

I'd be worried about the current, too. Angels, even when healthy, are really bothered by a lot of current. I could easily see a sick one exhausting him/herself trying to maintain position.

As for cover, get a couple of plastic plants -- preferably something tall and thin, like tall grass, and tie the base to a rock. The angel will appreciate some plants to hide among.

thanks people.. the current doesnt seem to be too strong from the food that i put in there, it doesnt fly around very much at all. but that makes me feel better about the air issue. that water is almost at the same level as the filter. well the little guy is still alive tonight. i will feed him some bloodworms in the morn and give him another pill tonight. i was thinking of doing a water change tomorrow niight after work, before i dose him again. good idea or not?? well, im off to bed, have a good night everyone

Good idea...Water changes while medicating are very good, but keep in mind that you have to replace the removed medication, so do the water change first, then medicate for the day.
 
right, thanks oriongirl. i will do that this evening when i get back from work..... oooh its a chilly day out there, minus 6 celsius. wish i was a fish in a tropical tank right now :D thanks for the tips everyone
