4-6 weeks is standard. If you know the source is reliable, and just want to observe the fish, then a week will work, but this timeline is NOT enough to prevent diseases. If you're worried about ich, then a minimum of 3 weeks after the last visible infestation. Anything less and you risk having a few surviving parasites still embedded in the fish that will infest the tank.
