Question about cycling

This is one hobby that teaches you patience. I was just as impatient as you when I started but it is best to wait until everything is spot on. I enjoyed watching the rock grow!!!! It was interesting as a newbie to see what would appear on the rock (like different Algaes) and whether or not you have any hitchhikers.

My other hobby is watching paint dry!!!LOL

I'm easily pleased!!!

lol.Cat..I really need to learn patience.I so have none.I mean ,I even had my kids early..lmao
I do keep watching the rock,,looking for die off more than growth..lol.I kept thinking I had killed my rock..lol.Anyhow I know that I didn't and everything that was growing on the rock is still there.I keep watching for something new but I get bored soooo easy..I am willing to wait as long as needed to let the tank mature.I don't wanna lose any fish because of my mistake..I am glad there are others like me out there. Here where I live there is no one with a saltwater tank to ask questions.

Wait untill the cool stuff starts showing up, pods and micro stars and all kinds of little goodies!! Then you won't get boread so easy!!

Cycling

I have a 75 gal aquarium with live rock. I had expected the ammonia to peak, then the nitrite, and finally nitrate, however my nitrite peaked before the ammonia??? When I did see ammonia levels, it lasted for about 2 weeks and reached a peak of 0.3 on one day. My nitrite level has been zero for about a month now. I added 2 tomato clown fish, because I didn't want the damsels which can be too aggressive. I also added 12 blue legged hermit crabs for my clean up crew. The pet store told me to wait before adding any more fish until after I see the brown algae (golden diatoms) appear, and not to panic, it would then disappear. This occurs at the end of the cycle from what I have read. I also saw copepods swimming around from the live rock, until the clowns ate them all.
