I have seen conflicting information about these fish and I was wondering if someone can tell me for sure:

- would a 16 gallon tank be big enough for a lone figure eight?

- are they truely brackish fish?

A 16 gallon would be fine for 1 F8 puffer. They will do best in a lowend brackish setup with a SG of 1.005-1.008.

I kept my F8 in a 10 gallon for over a year. I had to give him up and the individual that has him now still keeps him in a 10 gallon tank. He has some nice holey rock and silk plants to swim around in and is very happy. He is the only inhabitant of the tank other than the occasioanl ghost shrimp and snails.

in my local lfs store they had about 6 or 7 fo8p's about 8 inches (smallest to about 13 inches biggest in a display tank about 2ft by 1 ft by 1ft, all sittin on the bottom with a vacant expression, what sort of size do these grow to? Also they were in the tropical freshwater section??? what temperature is average for brackish?
