Its working now. OMG I should have listened to it before I uploaded it. Please ignore my husband. After I was done laughing at him, I did inform him that she is not an ugly goldfish but a pregnant platy.
I don't want to scare you but she doesn't look pregnant, she looks sick.
Well, she very well could be pregnant, but the fry growing inside of her have no way of getting out. As they keep growing, she will eventually die. That's my take on this.
I cannot tell, but it looks like something is coming out of her toward the end of the video (bubble or sac). Could you verify? Or is it just me?
I had several females like this, not sick but in constat drop mode..... they drop a few at a time and are constantly big. I have had these females for 2 years so far.
Theres a white thing on her bottom. It has been there for a couple of days now. I thought that was her getting ready to give birth. Is there anything that I can do?
Can you give us some idea of the timeline? How long has she been like this? Has her condition changed in that time? If so, how and when?
I really don't have any expertise here, but it seems that constipation could cause bloating and I have read that green peas can help with that. As I recall, it's usually just 1/2 a pea for one fish. Again, no experience with this, just repeating things I've read. I hope someone who really knows something will chime in.
She will likely deliver in the next couple of days. She is well along and truly squared off. You may not see any fry if you don't have good cover. Unless you have a way to compare, it can be hard to tell by size alone. I have a molly almost ready to deliver but she looked almost as big right after she last delivered a 35 fry drop. Since I am documenting this pregnancy, I have a picture I took right after her drop and another that I took today. When I took the one right after the drop I was convinced I would not see any change because she looked huge. Today's picture shows that I was wrong, she is huge by comparison. Your platy looks much more like my molly does today. I think they are both quite close, your platy and my molly both.
If she is pregnant, you can take the advice of many others here and raise the temperature overnight, meanwhile providing an extended period of darkness. If you want to take it further, refrain from feeding her for a day or two. This is suppose to induce her labor.
If she is sick, I don't think there is anything you can do (other than green peas ?). I've heard of a scenario where the guppy female wouldn't release the fry & got really big. It got to the point where she expired & the breeder conducted a cesarean section, to retrieve the fry. I certainly hope this is NOT the case and your girl will come around very soon. I'm surprised mollies get THAT big during pregnancy. Whew!
