I Just Bout A Water Conditioner Called Stress Coat By Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Inc. It Says It Replaces Protective Slime, Removes Chlorine, Neutralizes Chloramines, Detoxifies Heavy Metals And Also Has Aloe Vera For Healing Power. Well My Question Is Basicly How To Use The Product. Can I Use My Gravel Cleaner To Clean The Gravel And Do A Water Change, Then Add Same Temp Water ,then Add The Water Conditioner Or Do I Have To Add The Conditioner Before I Add The Water Into The Tank? If U Didnt Understand That Let Me Break It Down... When Doing Water Changes, Do I Have To Add The Water Conditioner B4 I Add The Water Or Can I Do It After I Add All The Water Into The Tank?

Using my Python water changer, I add my conditioner as I begin to refill the tanks with same temperature water. I have never lost a fish using this method in decades, and I do 50 % changes. I can adjust the PH as necessary using the same method, however I add my ph adjusting chems a little at a time as the water goes back in. Good luck!

WELL I HAVE A GRAVEL CLEANER AND A LITTLE BUCKET, SO I HAVE TO MAKE ABOUT 3 TRIPS FOR A 40% WATER CHANGE. IF I WAIT TO ADD THE WATER CONDITIONER WILL THAT DAMAGE MY FISH? WHEN I ADD THE CONDITIONER BEFORE I PUT THE WATER IN, A WHITE RESIDUE APPEARS AT THE TOP OF THE WATER IS THAT BAD TO ADD TO THE TANK? SHOULD I WAIT TILL THAT IS GONE TO ADD THAT WATER TO THE TANK? :read:

Why add the conditioner directly into the tank if you're hauling buckets? Just add enough conditioner to treat a bucket full of water, each time you fill it.

In other words, if you have a 10 gallon tank and it takes two buckets for a 50% water change (2.5 gallons per bucket full), add enough conditioner to the bucket to treat the 2.5 gallons. Do this for each bucket full. That way, the water you add to the tank is completely safe, and you aren't using too much conditioner either.

DOES THE CONDITIONER CLEAN THE TOXINS IMMIDIATLY OR SHOULD I WAIT A LITTLE WHILE BEFORE PUTTING IT IN THE TANK, HOW LONG? DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE WHITE STUFF THAT FLOATS ON THE TOP OF THE WATER IS AFTER U ADD 'STRESS COAT' WATER CONDITIONER? IS THAT THE "BAD STUFF"? SHOULD I WAIT TILL THATS GONE TO PUT THE WATER IN THE TANK? ALSO, I JUST BOUGHT AmQuel+ that removes nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, chloramines and chlorine i heard this is good, is that right? THANKS

I agree with mishi's advice on adding enough conditioner to each bucket. I've always done this and had success, plus it makes more sense since all is balanced out. If you add the conditioner to the tank, 50% full, it's more concentrated. Never have seen the white substance floating around--maybe it's something in your tap water? I use StressCoat, and Amquel (although I have hard well water) at different times, going by intuition and water needs--I recommend you check out the thread on "What are your favorite tank additives?" in the Freshwater Newbie Forum--I just read through and it has alot of helpful recommendations. Best is: plenty of water changes with good, fresh water!! Good luck. :o

I agree. All the capitalizations make me want to not even read what is being written.

No offense intended, but the rules for capitalization are there for a reason. They make the words easier to read. Adds emphasis on certain things. If you add emphasis to either entire sentences or every word in a sentence, it throws everything out of wack trying to read it.

Don't count on conditioners cleaning "toxins" out of your water. Even though a conditioner might neutralize ammonia, nitrite and nitrates, it does not replace regular water changes. The primary purpose is to elimiate chlorine or chloramine. Prime and Amquel Plus are good for treating cloramine in that it neutralizes the resulting ammonia (from breaking the chloramine bond -- chloramine=chlorine+ammonia) as well. It works virtually immediately.

Not sure about the white stuff. I have never seen it in my tanks. Perhaps it's from the special additives in Stress Coat like the aloe vera?

BTW, please turn off caps lock when posting. It makes you "sound" like you're yelling, and it's just plain hard to read.
