I HOPE THAT I HAVE THE CORRECT FORUM

In the last few days I've found a few of my fish in the 55 gallon tank d.ead. They were 3 Angels (body size about a 1/2 $ size or slightly larger) and a Serpae Tetra.
The only fish that I have noticed having aggressive tendencies towards the Angels and Serpae in the tank were the 2 Yoyo loaches (about 1 inch to 1 1/4 " long) and a 1 1/2" Rainbow shark (Black body and all fins are red). The other fish that I have in the tank besides the remaining Angels and Serpae are clown loaches, small cory catfish, and a Synodontis catfish.
I have tested the water and found excellent readings for the Amonia and Nitrite. I have not added any new fish within the past month or so.

Is it possible (probable) that either the Yoyo or the shark are the culprits ?

That's not my experience with yoyo loaches. I've mixed yoyo loaches in community setups with no ill results. Not even the neon tetra would get harassed by them. Of all the loaches, only the skunk loaches, modestas and tiger loaches were my most problematic loaches but they are not to be kept in community tanks after all.

What exactly are the test results? What test kit are you using? We need to know more about your tests. The comments are not convincing enough for us. We would be inclined to dig deeper into this issue.

Of all the fish, I would never have mixed serpaes and angels together. Veiltail angels don't mix well with yoyo loaches but normal one are fine.

What species is your synodontis? Is it Synodontis eupterus? If so, it may be one of the culprits. Synodontis ocellifer are also possible culprits. Both species show aggression towards other tankmates in my experience but not enough to kill them. Just a bit of chasing here and there.

How long have you discovered your fish dead? What were the signs? Unless I am mistaken, if you have discovered fish after a few hours, obviously the eyes will be gone first as they are eaten first by the other fish. The fish's fins may be trimmed as well. If you discovered the fish dead within an hour, it may still show much more convincing signs of aggression including slime coat grazes and bloodshot areas.

It could be the rainbow shark too. They can be pretty aggressive and in my local Petland I saw one beat up and kill a rosy barb.

Lupin, thanks for your reply
Boith the Amonia and the Nitrites showed a 0 ppm when tested with the API (Aquarium Pharm) test kit.
The Angels and the Serpae don't bother each olther and for the most part stay on different ends of the tank.

I'm pretty sure that the Syno that I have is the eupterus, but I have never seen him/her anywhere near the other fish, except when I feed them pellets.

I can't tell how long the fish were dead, since IK found the Angels when I put the lights on and the Serpae died when the lights were on but he was beiung drawen in by the filter intake tube. The angels did not have their eyes eaten and their bodies were n ot marred at all, which surprised me. Therfe were no signs of aggression

I would think the Yo-Yo are not to blame. My Yo-Yo's became a little more fiesty since one has pasted. When I had three of them, they all hung out. Now that there are two, they are always chasing each other and the less dom. one then chases someone else, usually a rainbow or barb. maybe add a couple of more loaches.
A syno. with slow moving fins in front of it might be to much to ignore. My Syno. aren't to big (4-6") but are aggressive towards anybody. Not deadly, but aggro.
Any Rainbow or Red Tail Shark I have owned in the past were also fiesty but not killers. I would blame him b4 the loaches.

What size tank? You also may want to consider adding more yoyo's while the are still somewhat smaller.

I once tried to introduce serpae tetras into a 75 gallon community tank. Two days later, I noticed the Odessa barbs and Boesemani rainbows were missing pieces of their tails. That's why my serpae tetras now have their own 29 gallon tank.

Anyway, it's possible that the serpae tetras were going after the angels. And when the angels fought back, they ended up killing one of the serpaes.

Vicious little beasties, those serpaes. And yet, I love them.
