Question?
i know it sounds weird but i was wondering if i could put my koi in a tank with a group of gouramis, small sharks, and algea eaters.

Why dont i just make a pond?
because it is in the middle of winter right now for me, i have thought about it but i need my approval from my parents, also i dont have much time since i work.

For how long?
I will keep them in there for about a month untill the weather starts getting better

How big is the tank?
50 gallons, yes yes i know it is small but i will remove them after the time is up

How big are the kois right now?
They range from 5-9 inches each, i have 7, the kois are 3 times as big as the rest of the fish that are already in my 50 gallon.

Main Question:
Can i keep the kois in there for about a month WITHOUT the kois or other fish being attacked at which includes; tail-nipping, tail-chasing, anything that will harm the fish

ANY IDEAS/SUGGESTIONS will be helpful

THANKS

I wouldn't put the koi in your tank. 7 koi alone that size in a 50 gallon tank is overstocking it. Honestly I would think that the koi could eat any of the smaller fish you put in with them. Where did you get the koi? Where are you planning to keep them after keeping them in the 50 gallon for a month?
Koi are a pond fish. Not a fish you should keep in a fish tank.

i plan on moving the kois in a pond after a month so there is more room for them. The smallest fish i have in there is 3 inches which is half the kois size, and hes also very fast

Where are you keeping the koi now? I wouldn't do it, unless you absolutely had to. 7 koi in a 50 gallon is overstocking the tank in my opinion.

Where are the koi right now? I wouldn't put the koi's in there for a couple reasons, one as Flower said, 7 would be overstocking a 55 gallon tank by a lot. 5-9" is pretty big, and they are pretty messy fish too and the koi would probally eat some of the smaller ones. The algea eaters would probally suck the slime coating off of the koi, and the sharks + gouramis would probally nip the koi to. When you build your pond you need 1000 gallons for the first koi, then 100 for every added one. That means you need a 1600 gallon pond minimum and exellant filtration. If you can't build this then I would recommend giving them away.

*Edit: I would give them away. 20 gallon is way to small for one, so is a 50 gallon. It is just cruel to keep them in such horrible conditions. Koi can grow to be 3 feet or larger, thats almost the size of a 50 gallon tank (about a foot left) Unless your positive you can build a 1600+ pond soon, then give them to someone who has a large pond.

I agree with Animallove. Please give them to someone who has a large enough pond for them. I can only imagine how they look in a 20 gallon tank.
I'm sure they can barely turn around. Like I said Koi shouldn't be kept in fish tanks, they are pond fish. How have have you had them?

yeoch - 7 Koi in a 20.

what kind of sharks do you have ? I would probably move over the tropicals into the 20 (exactly what do you have), get the Koi into the 55, and do the pond like yesterday, or pass the fish on to somebody who can care for them for you until you get it done.

I completely agree with what coler said. I know it may be hard to give them up for a little while but you need to get tanks strightened out beforehand. Putting them in a small, crowded tank is not going to be pleasant for them.

that and you stick 'em in the 55 with the tropicals, and you run the risk of losing all your fish to disease brought on by overcrouding.
