I bought some live plant bulbs from walmart about 2 days ago, it is a pack on 9. I was wondering if they need anything to survive on, like do I need to put anything in the water to keep them alive? Or do they just live on their own?

I bought some of those before and had really bad luck with them. They never grew was the major problem... :(

I've kept them before and think they are beautiful plants. They would grow until the plant got big enough then it would detach itself from the bulb. Most of the time the bulb wouldn't sprout again for a couple weeks, sometimes more then a month. It seemed to enter a dormancy period. But, eventually, it would sprout another plant. I would say the plant will do best under medium lighting. I kept mine in a high light tank and it would grow algae on the older leaves. But, it was a pretty undemanding plant. If you get any leaves that reach the surface, like a lily pad, you can cut them off if you have other plants in the tank because it will block the light. Otherwise, if you leave it, you should get a flower.

Sometimes you win with these, sometimes you loose. They are pretty easy to grow as others have said. When I had mine, i kept them under med to high lighting. I eventually removed them from my tank because they got so large.

Also depends on the age of the bulbs too, I've had some from petsmart that never sprouted, while getting good results from walmart, hehe.
