Question regarding Mondo Grass

With anacharis or hornwort, you would be fine with that substrate. Those plants will only sink when weighted (many people leave them floating, i like mine weighted) and their roots suck nutrients out of the water. You may have problems with some plants that have very agressive root systems (like my onion plant) though. Id stick with anacharis, hornwort, or maybe a java moss. Those are low light plants, very easy to grow (you'll have to prune them periodically) and will build up your confidance.
I havent heard of bettas getting tangled in plants, but I guess it could happen. Keep an eye on them for awile, but they should be ok.

There are plant weights sold at pet stores that will work. They are very pliable strips of some kind of metal alloy(?), only caveat is that they apparently may or may not contain lead.
If you buy your plant from a store, it may come with one of these on it already.
You can also weight it down with a rock or two.
Anacharis is very easy to propogate by cutting a piece off just above a set of leaves, fyi. (If you know anyone near you with a tank who keeps anacharis, odds are they can give you some for free, it grows that fast!)

Thank you so much for the info! I wish I did know someone nearby with anacharis, but I don't know anybody in my area with aquariums. A shame, too, if they're that quick-growing!

I'm definately going to be on the lookout for anacharis now. It's pretty, it makes the tank look nice, and it sounds like it will work with the substrate I have. Thank you again! :)
