It sort of depends on how warm you want the water to be and how different that is from the coolest normal room temperature. Are you pushing it from 72 to 76 or from 66 to 78?

The general rule of thumb is for 3-5 watts per gallon. Small tanks need a little more than large tanks because they cool faster (greater surface area per volume and what not). So maybe figure 4-5 for a small tank and 3-4 for a large tank. For a 90g you'd want to be somewhere around 300-400 watts. So how cold are the winters in Alberta? I'd probably go with a pair of 200s. Redundancy is a good thing…
 
Agree! I always use two heaters in a larger tank... one toward each end. A pair of 200's should be fine.
