I save a small turtle at work (where I am at now). I have NO intention of keeping him/her.

I know nothing of turtles. I found him in our parking lot (NOT a friendly place as we are a utility with many semis/cars). My guess is a bird dropped him here from a near (.5 mile away) river. This river is REALLY polluted. He is young! Only about 1" diameter.

A) Should I drop him back off at the river?
b) Take him home to a smaller river, but I know is clean?
C) How do I take care of him for the 4-5 hours I am at work?

I have no way of identifying him as I dont know anyhing about turtles.

He is in a sectioned off plactic plate, with warmer bottled spring water. I know it is not ideal butt it is all I got for now. Ambient temp is 75F, he is behind a hot computer to help warm things up.

Please help

Don't worry about keeping him warm for only a few hours. I'd say all you have to do for the next couple of hours is make sure he can get into and out of water.

In a normal turtle vivarium, the turtle would have a lot of swimming space with a ramp or something that leads up to a basking spot. This way they can regulate their own temps.

But since you'll have him for a short period of time I wouldn't worry about it.
You can also probably just drop him off in the smaller river, as long as there are areas that get a lot of sun. They need to bask.

Thanks -

Is there any special care for him for car ride home?

I really wont be able to keep water in my car w/o spilling. It is about 20 minute ride (if no accidents).

Thanks for quick response!!!!

He is indeed cute!!!! I wish I could keep him, but I just have noooooo room or knowledge of them. (already have 8 tanks, 1 vivarium and soon a sw tank to make 10 total tanks).

Good to hear - if i had something to hold water, I would put him in that, but everything here is dirty - by a lot and would not put anythin alive in it.

i vote that unless you have done the research or acquired the materials in order to properly accomodate and take care of a turtle, you should take him back to the river ASAP.

There is one problem with the river - it is known to be heavily polluted. There are warnings all around the river to not eat the fish caught there and not to swim - it is used for industrial run off. Many times when I go walking down there, there are floating dead fish. Not exactly an ideal situation.

I can take him back but I know of a better river for him (belongs to wildlife refuge).

Anyways, I can take him anywhere until I get off work. Apparently, others have found perrished turltes on our lot before. News is making its rounds around our building.

Edit:
I have zero intentions of keeping him, he/she is only in my care for a few hours (max 5).

Yeap, I'm with J dub R, this turtle is from the area, therefore the waters around there cannot be too polluted for the breeding of these turtles plus you will be putting it into another body of water possible introducing a host of different things to the new body of water from his old place. There's no telling what he could have or what he could be holding plus, the new body of water holds no telling id it can support this little guy into adulthood.

Ok, sounds like back to the original river he goes

Cant exactly walk there now - but after work he goes.
