R these people friends or what?

I gotta side with JB on this one. You are totally slamming people who live in upstate NY, I don't blame him for standing up for himself and his family/friends/neighbors. How can you not expect him to stand up for himself?

Don,
Thank you for your response. No I did not work under the umbrella of an organisation. I chipped in and helped a Service family that is presently stationed in Italy take care of their property. At the end of 2000 I had put in over 150 hours of slave labor, my expense, my equipment, my gasoline to and from, and my gasoline to move and manicure their gardens. Never, never, never will I do that again for anyone. And anyone who thinks of me as being arrogant...and such, is a fool with tunnel vision.

And now on to a tru New Yorker. Ei, ei, ei, how famliar that tone sounds.
jib...:headshake2:
U know what U need to do? U need to walk in my shoes for a while before U open UR beak that wide again, shame on U. U have no idea what U R talking about. By the way, when describing the natives in our immediate neighborhood, how do you know whom I meant? You don't even know where I live and what kind of urchins I have to deal with. I am convinced every day more and more "it must B the water!!!"

Please refrain from further negative up comments. By the way, if the shoe does not fit, then don't wear it.

Minding my business, being a friendly helpful neighbor, how would anyone react when the parties on both sides of our property tell you to UR face: "Pack up UR crap and get the hell out of here, we don't want U here!" This is after living on our property for 5 years.

Thank you Bonnie, hoping to meet you some day.
Sigrid, perhaps I was talking out of school, but you seem to be making sweeping generalizations about folks living in "the outback in NY state... where [you] don't have large access to more well rounded personalities". Georgraphically, that statement defines me perfectly; personality wise it most certainly does not. You seem to love to tout how wonderful you are and how your experiences are the be all, end all of experiences. I merely asked a couple questions to get you to look at yourself as opposed to blaming everything on those around you. You are right that I don't know exactly where you live, but you didn't give us that information to work with. You came on and blasted people from small town in upstate NY. If you post sweeping negative generalizations about a group of people on a public forum, you are probably going to get some blowback from those statements. Unfortunately, it was me that had to be that person this time. If you don't want negativity back, don't put negativity out there... that's karma.

jB...,
The only one who was reacting negatively, was U. I poured my heart out, nothing else.
Wouldn't I be a fool telling the world my exact location so I could receive more of the same I have received before?

You just had to shoot off your mouth - even though I did not insult you and yours. I spoke of what lives in my immediate area.

Read my thread from start to finish and then you will realize that I am rather involved with activities in a small wonderful village.

As to my knowledge or lack of when it comes to the aquarium hobby, I will be "blasted" if I start cowtowing before personalities such as yours, amen.

I have read the thread... several times. The message I took from what you wrote was "I'm wonderful and I'm surrounded by hicks and idiots in upstate NY." Yes I reacted negatively... as I will everytime someone makes broad, unfounded generalizations such as these. You didn't pour your heart out, you insulted people from upstate NY. Which does indeed inculde me and mine. Who ever mentioned knowledge about aquaria? Now you're just making stuff up.

Sigrid, I'm sorry that you are having problems with both your neighbors and your injury. It can be difficult to meet people that share the same interests as yourself, no matter where you live. Your OP asked for opinions based on the info you gave and though you didn't care for some of the answers, I felt you were also rude in your response to Jbradt.

While I sympathize with you regarding people that talk non-stop, especially when they are a passenger in my vehicle, and don't seem to care about my views on a subject, my solution would be to avoid that type of person like the plague. If I can't have a civil and intelligent conversation with an acquaintance or neighbor, I do my best to avoid them. I do have a couple friends (much younger than me) that seem to make every little thing a big production. They never forgive being wronged or slighted and seem to want to be the center of any conversation. I just nod and go on with my day. I can't change them nor should I want to. I just accept them for who they are and deal with it.

I also live in a semi-rural area so I have infrequent contact with my neighbors but as Don said, if my neighbor needs help, I will do my best to help him/her. Yes, there are some jerks that allow dogs/cats to freely roam, burn trash in a malicious manner (I call authorities for this one) or do their best to be irritating neighbors. I find it best to ignore them for the most part. I try to live my life how I want without impinging on my neighbors.

Hopefully, your situation will improve with your neighbors and 'friends' but if not, just keep looking until you do find someone that understands what the meaning of friendship and neighborliness actually is all about.

What a lovely and elegant response, dudley!

Sigrid, I'm not sure why you type the way you do - with the "U" instead of "you" and "R" instead of "are" and the bold blue Comic Sans font, but I think more people would be willing to participate in an online discussion with you if you didn't write this way. I don't know if you're trying to stand out or what, but I have a hard time reading your posts, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's almost as distracting as writing in all caps. Your unusual writing style makes it difficult enough to follow your sentences, but the font and bolded blue makes it worse.

Of course you can do whatever you want, but I would highly suggest you not type this way. You may like it, but I assure you most people don't!
