Does anyone know anything about 'rabbit snails'? I think they were 'spotted rabbit snails' . Probably not what they're really called I would guess, but that's what they were labeled as. Anyway, I didn't buy them, but they looked really interesting and I've been thinking about them. My LFS rarely has any types of snails in, so I was really surprised to see these.

They're one of several species of Tylomelania being imported from ancient lakes in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi: Lake Poso and Lake Matano (in the Malili lake system).

They're dioecious (both males and females), depositing large eggs underwater.

southern desert had some pics/thread on them just a few weeks ago.....

BTW - they do eat plants.

Why would they not be compatible with fish?

Thanks. The only plants I have are tons of lace java fern. You think they would even eat that?

not sure - southerndesert would prob be able to tell you as he owns/sells them. Send him a PM......they sure are cool looking.

They seem to leave ferns and moss alone but anything else is lunch......

They are slow moving and quite large snails plus they need hard water and calcium to keep good shells.

Mine don't seem to eat plants. It could be just a species or starvation thing.

They're also livebearers.

I don't have any snails except for I guess a healthy pop'n of the wee pond ones. how do I know if I have enough calcium?
