We have a large 5" Rainbow shark currently in 100 gallon with 2 kissing gouramis and 2 tiger barbs. In the near future we will be taking that tank down and turning it into a African Cichlid tank. We will be giving the T barbs and the gouramis to my Mom and really want to keep the Rainbow. We have no place to keep it after converting the 100 to african. So this is what we are thinking...
We have been planning for a long time to make a small (20 long) glofish set up. Now we are thinking it would be great to up the size of the glofish set up to 55g and add the rainbow shark as the center piece.

Would this work? The shark doesn't pay the other fish it is currently with any attention as long as they stay out of it's cave.

Hmmm.
As rainbow sharks get larger they tend to get more agressive. your plan to move him to a new tank will remove his territorial behavior but I am not sure how he'll adapt. I have kept rainbow sharks for years, and at those times have always had either Zebra danios, or some type of tetras without issues.

I would try it and find out, but I think I would add the shark to the tank after the other fish, thet way he wont be able to establish his terretory. They can become VERY territorial, and defensive. the last one I had was in his tank alone for about a year, I added 3 tiger barbs to the tank, and he terrorized the heck out of them..
So I would add the shark after the other fish.

It should be alright, add the rainbow shark last. I agree with zigman on hostilities between the RS and the others when added first.
