Are rainbow sharks compatible with a planted tank??i heard they sometimes feed on algae..if that happens to be true then won't it be beneficial to keep them in such tanks??i'll be thankful to know..

The tank is 40 gallon with one black angel,2 pearl gouramis,2 platties and 1 male betta..quite heavily planted..and btw thanx for such a prompt reply..

Bad idea with the stock you have. Your betta wont last long and your gouramis wont get along well either with that rainbow shark. Bigger tank for the rainbow would be better too.
Just my opinion as I have had the little guys in a 75.

The truth is the place where i stay has very little option for an aquarium hobbyist..the LFS here don't have that many kinds of fishes..and almost literally they never have any aquatic plant...so for plants you have to go to a lake or a pond or sometimes even rivers..lol..and let alone any kind of algae eaters..SAE,otos,shrimps,brittlenose pleco..nothing..i'm havin an algae prob and i'm kinda desperate for an algae eater and that's when the sharks came into my mind..and btw no pressurized CO2 available here..goin DIY..

You might want to look into ordering your fish and plants online. The shipping is expensive but they have a broad selection and since you have no access to a good LFS it would certainly make sense.

I have 3 FW sharks(rainbow, albino rainbow and redtail) who all seem pretty peaceful. They're in a 75 gallon with only 5 other fish though, which helps im sure. The tankmates are 2 plecos, a female jack dempsy, a female convict and a golden gourami. The only time they show aggression is towards each other, and thats only the occasional chase. But before I adopted them I did do some research and heard they can be agressive, so I guess I got lucky, lol. Either way, good luck, and remember that species have characteristic traits, but individuals also have unique personalities, so you're never sure what you'll get :)
