Looks like I got my wife hooked onto the idea of getting her own aquarium, was looking to set her up with a 55g after Christmas She wants a rainbow tank.

Any danger of Rainbows crossbreeding, was looking in getting 3 schools of 5 fish each.

Rainbows can interbreed, but it is normally frowned upon. The crosses are often not as impressive as the originals, and it is hard enough to tell the purebreds apart. You could probably manage 2 or more species if they are very different, such as threadfins and neon rainbows.

They also look much better in large groups. Normally 2 females for every male. I love my neon rainbows.

She has two types picked out so far... neons and aussies... which are probably similar enough to breed... assuming they'll breed at all (and nothing gets the eggs, gotta figure out some cleanup crew)

Well, my three laid eggs quite quickly, and i have 2 babies growing out now. I'm not sure if Australians and Neons would breed together. It has quite a bit to do with their coloration. They might not, just because they look so different.

Australian rainbow doesn't refer to a specific fish--it might be any one of several different types of rainbow. If you can figure out which specific one she wants, you can determine if it will cross with the neons or not.

It would be a eastern splendis, Melanotaenia splendida splendida, if you're looking for a specific breed, own 4 of them right now (although I think 3 may be dwarfs, damn my lfs to hell!)

lol...yeah, I remember Wippit and his spider thingy, too.
