Raising KH

Laka

I seriously doubt you will drop the ph to dangerous levels. If you are worried about it add calcium in some form. The product you are adding is most likely some form of sodium or calcium or both. I have a jar of coral builder by Kent I bought once because I am stupid. It contains a fine white powder that is a combination of carbonate and bicarbonate salts. Many people just put some crushed coral in the filter system because it is essentially the same thing and it doesn’t cost them anything. At the levels of kh you are talking about the calcium in it is usually beneficial to the plants and the snails.

You can use baking soda to raise the kh it won’t hurt anything but you won’t get the added benefit of the calcium.

I think what we are all telling you is that the kh will not be a problem.

I have soft water 2 degress KH. I intend increasing KH using Aquasonic KH powder generator. What is in it ? Does it raise GH and more importantly are there any phosphates in the formulation. How will this powder affect pH?

There is absolutely no reason to raise a KH of 2...that is an ideal KH for growing plants in a tank. I would never add any of these mystery powders, particularly if you do not need it.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. Take home message: leave KH where it is combined with regular water changes should keep pH stable.

ABSOLUTELY
