help - i woke up to find my ram upside down on the bottom of its 5g tank that it has been sharing with a dwarf gourami. I took it out and moved it to another container get a better look, and it is still breathing and can swim sort of if agitated, but falls back down. Also, it used a bunch of effort to swim to the top, then fell back down to continue its sad state of sitting on the bottom, upside down, balanced by its fins. Does this sound curable?

sounds like he may be too far gone to recover. I 've seen similar symptoms, and not a one has survived. check your nitrates in the tank he came from, as that appeared to be the problem in the tank I had it in.

Keep his water pristine, LOTS of water changes. It may be swim bladder disease, and this is apparently the only way to fix it. What was your water change routine like?
Also, 5 gallons is a bit small for those two fish, for future reference.

What are your water parameters? Do you have a test kit to test for Ammonia, nitrate and nitrite? Poor little guy, he sounds bad...

how long have you had the fish.

tank is waay too small for those fish.

absinthe01, I just noticed from your other post that your gourami is also having issues, an ulcer-like spot on his side. Both these issues sound water-quality related. Like Sully said, how long have you had these fish and did you cycle the tank? What filter do you have, how often do you change your water, do you use a gravel vac, test your water often….These are all important questions we need answered or we can't help.

The reason we need to know your water parameters are because if you are having problems now, and your fish die, any new fish will most likely have the same problems too. We can only help if you let us know what steps you have gone through. We can discuss tank size later, let just help the fish we can now.
