Hey everyone. I just got 2 Ram's Horn Snails and one is doing fine but the other isn't moving... I know that snails don't move around a whole lot but this one found a place and has been motionless for hours on end. lol The other has been wandering the tank. I've never dealt with snails before so are there any ideas on what's happening?

I tried adding a snail to my tank on two seperate occasions. They never made it longer than a month for me. How did you acclimate it? Im thinking my tank might have some copper or something in it that they dont like.......

They generally need to be acclimated just like fish. But some snails can just hang out for days. Normally when they die there foot (body) comes out of the shell and just lies there. If the snail is tucked away then things are probably fine.

it's sort of a tuf call, i've had apple snails laying there dead and had them laying there alive. ramshorns are pretty similar. i think if they stay still they aren't feeling very well, and after a day or so i'd really start to wonder.

i'm also pretty sure they need to breathe air, but not necessarily alot.

www.applesnail.net is the most complete place i've found for most types of snails.

Hmm.. it's fine. It was moving around all day today but seems to be doing a balancing act. It's balancing itself on a rock in my tank. It's on the tip of the shell and is pulled back inside... strangeness...

As long as it is still able to attach itself to rocks etc... it will probably be fine. Make sure that these guys get some food but not too much. I like to throw in a piece of veggie once a week to suppliment their scavenging. If they are bigger rams horns then maybe twice a week a small piece of veggie. Peas are a favorite for my guys.
