I want to add a pair of rams to my 46 gallon comunity tank. The inhabitants are 2 3 spot gouramis, 5 neon tetras, 4 marbled hatchet fish and 4 cory cats. will there be any problems with their addition? also I have heard about people putting in flowerpots and things for them. Is this necissary?

I've got various Ram species in most of my tanks and they seem to do well with most fish. The only trouble I've had is that the Blue Rams seemed to like to bully my much larger, but calmer Bolivian Rams. You should be fine with the other fish you have, although at breeding time, the Gourami's might pose a bit of a threat and get bullied! For a small fish, the Blue rams can get pretty aggresive!

Since you don't really have any other bottom fish other than the Cories, they should do fine, but they do prefer lots of hiding places as they are pretty shy as goldfries said.

Good luck,
Bill C.

Need to know your tank specs. I've never had rams last long in hard alkaline water.

Rams would be fine. If you have plenty of hiding places for them they will feel more secure and stay out in the open more.
