I am so mad! I bought a new 20 gallon aquarium yesterday at one of my lfs. The deal was TOO good to pass up.....great boxing week sales going on. So it's one of those "starter kits"....comes with the filter, heater and everything else. I get it home and start to set it up.....and there are two huge cracks down the side of it!

I am so mad because the place I bought that tank is about an hour away from my house.....so I have to drive all the way back to exchange it (I have decided I'm going to exchange it for a 33 gallon though :) ). Do companies not check aquariums after they unload them to avoid things like this happening? What if the person who bought it was taking it out, PUT the crack in it then decided to take it back and blame the company. The company would be losing money!

So sorry about your cracked aquariam. This day and age, it is awful hard to find a company that takes pride in their products they sell.

At least you said you can now get a 30 gallon. And I am sure you are gonna check it before it leaves the store.

when I bought my eclipse hex 5 I thought I checked before I left the store, but when I got home and thoroughly took everything apart I noticed a 1 in crack starting from the top...I have to box it all back up and exchange it for another...and then I founfd out I was overcharged (somehow I had picked up the only one with an incorrect sticker) So at least going back to exchange put a little money in my pocket :p

I'm sorry to hear that! When I bought my 29gal I had the exact same problem, it was in a box at the store and they told me it was guaranteed to be in perfect condition when I asked to take it out and look it over. That was the last time I dealt with Petco!

Good luck with your new tank!

no you just have to be a little more careful and not take their word on things like that. if you think about the shear number of products they must check its almost a certainty that they will not be able to discover all of the defects in time, any company is like that. as a consumer you just must be a little more diligent.

The exact same thing just happened to me. I bought a tank right before christmass. 46 gallons, I checked it in the store but they had all kinds of tinsel and junk in the bottom. when I get home and pull all that stuff out I realized that I had missed a crack in the bottom. I took it back the next day and they gave me a new tank and some store credit so it worked out ok. Just bring it back and see what they do.
