I have a chocolate Raphael cat that stays inside a hole in a piece of driftwood. I can not get him out of the hole to get him out of the tank. I don't want to hurt him but I do need to get him out of the tank. I have tried everything short of harponing him. He will not come out even after lights go off. He must wait until I turn off the TV and all of the lights before he comes out at night to eat. Any ideas??

Remove the wood, put it in a tub, and wait...Then pull the wood out. They are stubborn buggers about this. I had one that would remain attached to the wood no matter what, even when completely removed from the water.

Tried that. In fact I even tried shaking the wood out of the water. This guy is a lifer the only way that guy is coming out is when he gets to fat to fit in the hole. That will take some time. I appreciate your help though. I was hoping find something that was safe but distasteful to drive him from the hole.

I think he was saying to put the wood in a tub OUTSIDE of the water and wait. Don't wait TOO long cause you may kill him.

Yep--have a bit of water for when he comes out, but leave the wood out of the water so he's exposed.

If you're lucky you might hear the fish croak when you take him out. When I moved mine out of the tank I almost dropped it when it made the wierd croaking noise. Then I remembered that they can do that :D

Got him. I used a pair of plastic tongs I use for my plants to nudge him out and then I swooped him up in the net. I am so relieved he came out unscathed.
