Can anyone give me some info on this fish? I'm planning on picking up a dozen of them. All I can find is that they are one of the smallest fish in the world and are somewhat sensitive to water quality. And they look beautiful with their brick red coloration...
I see that they are extremely sensitive, and should probably be kept in a large shoal in a species tank which accurately represents their natural habitat.
You mean these little guys ? You could always google'em (Any chance you speak German?)
Or you could take a look at Barron's The Barbs Aquarium where it mostly says nice fish, very small, hardy in clean water (prefers soft, acidic) prone to velvet in a poorly maintained tank, can be a good community fish if placed with similar fish -- other small rasboras, small tetras, etc… would do well in a small planted tank… ships poorly but should be long-lived if it survives the first few days intact…
Thx for the quick replies. Yea I did google em, but, as you've noticed, I'm not a speaker of German so I wasnt able to get much, although I did find some decent picks. And I am getting them shipped if I decide to go with them, so I will keep my fingers crossed.
Why don't you try The Fish Place in North Tonawanda. They're supposed to be one of the best LFSs on the East Coast! Maybe they could save you some grief and some shipping…
