I'm new here, and after browsing the forums I think my tank stock might not be ideal. (i.e. too many different fish, and not enough of the ones I have for adequate schooling)

I have a 20 gallon long that's been cycled and running for about a month with:

  • 2 Gold Barbs
  • 2 Bloodfin Tetras
  • 3 Zebra Danios
  • 5 Neon Tetras
  • 1 Blue Gourami
  • 1 Bushynose Pleco

What do you all think of my stock? Should I consider changing it any?
 
I would get rid of either the barbs, bloodfins, or danios and add more neons. They usually like big schools and its pretty cool if they school. But its just what I would do

Hmm. Personally, I would take back the blue gourami as they are semi-agressive and may take out your neons. Some barbs are also semi-aggressive and you need to watch out. I would personally keep the pleco, get more danios and more neons (6-8 of each) assuming you have adequate filtration on the tank. You might even want to stick with 1 larger school (15 neons + plec or 15 danios + plec). Good luck.

Take back all of 2 of the danios, bloodfins, or barbs along with the blue gourami. Get more Neons and more of the other fish and then get a Pearl gourami. They grow to around the same size, but are extremely peaceful.
 
Thanks for the great advice.

However, the Blue Gourami has been very peaceful; he just cruises around without bothering anyone. Also, the Gold Barbs don't chase or bite anyone. The Danios are the only ones that chase, but that is as expected.

I like the advice for more uniform stock. My girlfriend picked up fish without me after I told her the tank was ready. Now I just have to convince her to give up those fish... =(

I have a school of golden barb (beautiful fish--Love them) but they do grow big. My goldens are 4 inchs long. They look like little goldfish.

Wow, everywhere I've looked it has said they get to 3 inches. I might have to get rid of those two. =(
 
you could go with a dwarf cichlid in the tank, like a dwarf cockatoo, or a bolivian
