How much calcium do you need in the tank (using tap water)
Is adding CC same as adding calcium?

usually if you have a gh of at least 2dgh you should be fine. however... 6-7 dgh is a nice range. as for calcium ppm... i must claim ignorance.

crushed coral will add kh (carbonates) as well as gh, therefore it will adjust the ph of your tank as well. also w/c's will cause a fluctuation in kh... how drastic will depend on how much has accumulated since your last w/c.

if you're just looking for calcium for plants i would shoot for calcium sulfate (caso4) or pick up a gh booster. 1.5 tsp of barr's gh booster will raise the gh in 5 gallons of water by a factor of 6dgh... so 2dgh per 1/2tsp.

gh boosters will typically contain calcium, magnesium and potassium.
