Hello everyone! I just joined AQ tonight and have spent a couple hours looking around and following different threads.

I'm taking my first shot at resealing my 55g tank and when it's done and tested I'll be moving fish into different tanks. I need some help deciding who should go where and what new fish i should get, please. Here's the current state of things:

75g - 2 male dwarf gouramis, 1 male betta, 6 lamp eye tetra, 7 cardinal tetra,
7 red minor tetra, and 2 African brown knives
55g - on the porch getting the old sealant scraped off with a razor blade
10g - 1 small fancy goldfish
1g - 1 male betta

The 1g and 10g are in my daughters' room and I am planning on getting a 20g for the goldfish and not ever adding anything else to it, which frees up the 10g. For a long time I've wanted to try a black lighting scheme (no live plants). Has anyone done this? I want to do this in either the 55g or 75g with some mollies.

Here's what I'm thinking of switching to. Please feel free to put in your two (or three) cents worth.

75g - 2 knives, 2 male dwarf gouramis, a pair of pearl gouramis (new)
55g (black light) - 1 male betta, molly school (new), 2 or 3 bala sharks (new),
a small cory school (new)
20g - 1 singular goldfish
10g - the tetras
1g - the other betta - or can I put him in the 10g with the tetras?

This leaves a big hole in the middle level of the 75 gallon tank in which I know I can put something neat. What will be compatible with the knives and gouramis?

BTW, in case anyone is wondering at the difference in treatment of the bettas, to be in the big tank you have to be owned by the 34-year-old. If you're owned by the five-year-old and are her favorite colors you get to be in her room on her dresser where she can see you anytime she wants.

Thanks very much for your help and I'm looking forward to seeing your responses.

hi Lynn, welcome to AC.

looks good to me... the only thing i thought of was moving one of the tetra groups like the red minors (serpaes?) into the 75 and significatly bumping up their numbers, like to 20+. it would make a nice school and really fill up the center of the tank.

or you could go with some larger fish, like some silver dollars. are Pacu's too aggressive?

initially i thought the bala's might be a bad idea for a 55... they are notorious jumpers and often knock themselves out on the ends of a four foot tank. they really need a lot of horizontal swimming space. but it might work.

i don't know that much about knives, so i cant help you much there... there are some neat exotics, like Farowellas. a few angels might be cool too.

theres my two pennies. good luck.

one more thing.

if you do move some of the tetras to the bigger tank, the betta might be happier in the ten gallon.
