Hello All

i have a very nice piece of drift wood that must go in the tank but it extends across the whole tank so i will have to remove all plants and existing rocks and drift wood.

question on how to go about this and what could go wrong.

should i remove all plants to buckets and the vacum, place everything and replant (50% water change at the same time)

should i put something in the tank to keep fish calm, because i dont realy want to take them out.

any advise would be great.

Well it depends. Are all of the plants moving positions? Do you have something like a Java Fern that could benefit from a little shade?

As to the water change while doing this, absolutely.

The only thing to make sure of is that your driftwood is presunk, won't float. i bought some a while back and now I'm using it again and I have to re-sink it.

okay when i started i planted crypts (1), rotala(5stems) anubias(2) and i think CYPERUS HELFERI(8) which went wild. so most of the plants will move

I now have about 80cyperus helferi, 15 crypts, 18rotala stems 3 anubius, so the drift wood is going in the centre and will stand about 15inch high.

I have attached 2 pics and will take pics as i go so as to maybe help others avoid the mistakes i am sure will crop up.

Thank you so far

I think your described approach will be fine - pull everything up, 50% water change replant. (another water in a day or 2 if you see a lot of muck on top of the gravel.)

I do it all the time...
See post 144 2nd pic you can barely make it out but fish are still in there and come to think of it I'm not sure I did a water change....shame on me....LOL

Okay i am going for it hopefully this weekend, will take pics as i go.
Thanks for the advise

I did this about 2 months ago when I purchased my new driftwood. I drained 50% of the water, put all the plants in a bucket...already had the wood soaking so it sunk.

You ought to see it now, that I added more plants...

The wood in question, just a pic while i wait for the last dregs of tannin to leach. The piece is not as hard as i expected, what do you think the implications are - will it melt (i mean its hard just not as hard as mopani)
