44 pentagon corner tank is ready for its new life as a planted community tank

so as it stands right now it has two floros over the top one power glo the other aqua glow incredibly bright in the tank

it has about 3.5 inches of white sand
and a cascade rated for 65 gallons so waters moving very well

water is totally cycled and stable so i want to avoid draining tank

how do you guys think i should go about planting the tank

i will make co2 for it

and should i make plater boxes for some good planted substrate

any ideas would be most helpful
im looking forward to this very much

so i havent done a planted tank in a super long time will they really be okay and grow well in the sand its a very fine white sand?

Make sure you stir your substrate or get some MTS (snails) because 3.5 inches is alot of sand. Usually with sand, you don't want more than about 2 inches because it will compact and create anaerobic pockets of nasty bacteria that can kill your fish. :)

How many watts are over the tank?

the sand i have has been in there for awhile and is easily stirred by fish i plan to have a trop of corries or others that will move the top layer and i stir it up with the handle of my nets

and the lights over the top are two floros one being a power glow and the other a aqua glow so whatever that comes out to be all i know is that its super bright i also have a hps 400 watt that i can put over the top so lights not an issue i just want to know how well the plants will take in the sand.
