So, malefic and i got a new tank. it's a 150g, 5x2x2'1".

First problem we had - It's ridiculously heavy. I'm talking somewhere around 350 lbs or so. I know tanks are heavy, of course, but this tank has so much extra glass all over it to reinforce the top and the bottom. It is definitely a big difference from a store-bought kind of tank.

Instead of having a solid rim all around the tank, there are gaps in the back of the tank to put HOBs in. This means that if something happens, like the front of the tank gets huge scratch on it somehow, I can never turn the tank around and view it from the other side. This is okay to an extent, except. . . these cut-outs are not wide enough to accomodate an Emperor 400. Which is what i planned on using for this tank. Yes, I know in hindsight that we should have double-checked the measurements and made sure the filters would fit (we bought them a couple months ago) but I had assumed that the tank openings would be compatible with such a common filter brand.

Also, we got the tank because the price of the tank was good. We wanted it. But then, we added a stand. . . and the glass tops. . . and a delivery charge. . . and the truck rental to go get it. . .and furniture dollies to move it into the house (and the bottle of fake champagne to celebrate getting it into the house without breaking it). After all that, it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $1160.

Last week we went to PetSupermarket or some such place and saw a Perfecto 220 with stand and tops for $1173.

:(

another round of annoyance. . . . did a water change down below the output on the canister. . . it's like a trickle. this thing is clogging up really quickly from all the sawdust the plecos make. also, i flooded the tank stand trying to open up the top of the canister to clean it - the lever got jammed underneath the cross-brace of the tank, so the tubes were still open even though i thought i had closed them all the way. much excitement, and dirty towels. the water is clear considering i am running a Rena XP3 and a whisper 20-30 and nothing else, there's just tiny wood bits everywhere.

Well...it does sound like you ahve been having fun...However, it shall ALL be worth it in the end when fully up and running and you look back and think....plahhhh...it was all easy really....lol

Sorry, you've been having so many problems. That's what I fear about a large tank, even though I still want one. But like niko says once it's up and running and you have a pretty tank w/ awesome inhabitants, it will all be worthwile, HOPEFULLY.

Oh Wata, I'm sorry to hear about your trouble...it seems that is the way things always happen, one thing after another just think should be only one more thing (if any)....then you will be on the road to success and it will of been all worth it. I know right now it is aggravating as heck but anything worth having is alot of work:drool: Good luck with everything it will all work out in the end!

Well at least you are getting those annoyances out of the way now. Could be worse if all went too smoothly at the beginning and then all hell broke loose later on.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Here is something that might help cheer you up.

"Dad, the creepy person is in our trash again", yelled April.

"I see him dear", her father John replies as he turns on the back yard light. He then turns to his wife and says, "Ever since I gave them a potato he keeps coming around. I have tried to talk to them, but they very angry and crazy. Just yells random words".

The homeless person runs away.

"Do you think he is dangerous?", his wife asked. "I am not even sure if it is a man or a woman. It is a mystery.", he replies.

John ponders, "is this mystery person dangerous. Besides smelling of dead fish and urine, is there anything to be afraid of?"

John holds his wife. He assures her that they are safe for the night and they have more important things to worry about than this stranger. They look into the night sky and head for bed.

Down the street, a shadow is seen over another trash can.

Remember when JL posted this??? What a hoot!!! John should be forced to role play a minimum of three times per game.
