Really discouraged and becoming disinterested(problems with disease)

Well I am not really worried about the new fish routine yet, this tank was set up for 2 months before any infection and has been up for about 4.
I think what I plan on doing right now is taking everything out so I can actually catch the tetras then moving them to a 10gal and treating only them. Since none of my other fish so any signs of anything I would rather not rock the boat.

Alright got that done.. finally able to get a couple decent pics of the problem as well.

Just an out of the box question.... do any of the fish show signs of injury? I have seen angels pick at smaller fish, but only at night. I had an issues with angels picking at mollies. If the damage gets bad enough, infection could set in. Just a thought. Best wishes!

None really seem to show signs of injury, I have never seen the angel even go after them at all, but as you said it could be happening at night.

That's definately Columnaris. Nasty nasty parasite disease. I would likly treat all the fish, as they may have the bacteria on them as well. This is a stubborn bacteria to get rid of, and there are 4 strains of it. It's also a fast killer bacteria, some fatalities can appear in under 4 hrs.

Columnaris is bacterial not a parasite. You can use Maracin 1 & 2 together but I don't think the salt is very effective & will add to the fish stress if used all at once. I've not seen medicated food work as a sole treatment (for anything).

Water quality is certainly a factor but water changes won't be enough to fight an infection.

I just discovered columnaris on a rasbora in my 75g. On further exam I seem to be missing a couple more but no other fish are showing signs (yet) I will be ordering Kanaplex & probably nitrofurazone. This is one of my favorite tanks & don't want to risk them all.

There are several strains of columnaris, some kill fast with open wounds & some are more slow & can be a chronic killer if not wiped out.

You may want to continue treatment with both Maracins for more than the 5 day minimum, there are several antibiotics that can kill it.

Good luck to us both.

Alright well day 3 of treatment and all the lemon tetras remain, and all are active, perhaps it is effective.

Gonna keep them in the 10gallon for at least a month after treatment stops. Going to treat the tank for 7 days just to be sure. Also as far as I understand I should not being doing water changes during the treatment correct?

For the 55 I am going to monitor it very closely for any signs of infection. But the fact that not a single cory has acted different during the last couples months leads me to believe it is a strain that is only effecting the tetras if that is possible.

If they tetras live I am debating on converting the 10gal to a full time tank for them. I think they were nipping at the angel a bit(http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172788) and I would rather my angel look its best.

Gahh, that's the hard part, deciding who's sick or a carrier or not. & not over-medicating the healthy. Almost 30 years of fish keeping & I still don't know.
