I bought a green favia brain yesterday without inspecting it too much and once I got home I realized that the tissue was receding on a part of it and that the skeleton was becoming exposed. Is this a disease? Is it stoppable/reversable?

is it still receeding?
it can sometimes stop when it is exposed to better conditions. sometimes, fragging off the dieing part helps too. id wait to make sure that it isnnt progressing anymore before doing anything with it.

I dunno, how fast do they recede? I just got it yesterday.

it depends. they could receed really fast, but it could be slow too
just keep an eye on it

i have been able to get them to stop by adding all the trace elements i use in my tank. also using some combo vital can actually really help bring them some extra nutrients they need. strontium can also help rebuild dieing corals but thats more on the skeleton level.

Right now I just do 5 gallon waterchanges with CoralPro salt to replace nutrients. I also have I think tech cb part a and b which is like a buffer I guess? And Iodine. Is this supplementing all the trace elements and all, or do I need more additives?

I was told by an experienced and intelligent reef keeper that "additive this, additive that" is the INDUSTRY answer and that a good quality salt with regular waterchanges is the real answer to a healthy reef tank, few additives needed... he could be wrong though.

I don't thing they are needed, BUT I think they can help if you test to make sure you use the proper amount.

There are little round white things on the brain coral near the recession. They don't look like skeleton. I can pick them off with tweezers. Here's a pic.

Do corals get parasites?

My moonstone brain did that one night but I couldn't pick them off. It was gone by the next morning, maybe it is just acclimateing it's self in some way. Mine did it the second night in the tank.
