I want to make a collection of recipes that people have for their fish. for food, or like their own melifix stuff. or is there a collection somewhere, I tried to do a search but found nothing.

here is a food recipe that I got from a book years ago, it is great, my fish love it. I have changed the ingredients to suit what was in season and wht my local supermarket had so keep that in mind.

100mg(4 oz) Ox Heart (I've used chicken heart)
100mg(4 oz) White fish(trout, salmon, sole, whatever really!)
50mg(2 oz) Processed peas
50mg(2 oz) baked beans (not pork and beans!!!)
50mg(2 oz) Spinach
2 tablespoons flake food

-chop ox heart and fish into small chuncks and blend to a puree
-take outer skins off the peas and beans, then add the insides to the meat
-add spinach and flakes into bowl and mix
-put mixture into ziplock bags and roll(with rolling pin) to about 3mm(or 1/8th of an inch)
-place in freezer and allow to freeze overnight

after that all you have to do is to snap off a piece and feed it to your fish! Like i said before my fish love this stuff! they almost go as crazy for it as live food, I have fed this a their regular diet at times and they have never looked better!

awsome thanks, here is one that I have found here that gave me the idea.

DIY Oscar/Cichlid Food
Go back
Ingredients:
*500 grams (1 pound) beefheart
*350-500 grams (3/4-1 pound) chicken livers
*1 can of shelled green peas
*1 small packet of frozen spinach(150-200g)
*200 grams (1/2 pound) of prawns (I like to peel and head them otherwise
they pass the shells and they end up sitting on the bottom of your tank)
*1 cup of fish food pellets crushed (soak this in some warm water to
soften, they blends smoother if soft)
*1 packet of unflavored gelatine to bind

Method:
.....Its really quite simple, everything except the gelatine needs to be
either minced or put in the food processors and made into a mince-like
consistency. I recommend that you do each of the meaty ingredient in the
food processor seperately and then combine all in a large mixing bowl. Its
okay to blend all the veggies together. Once everything is blended up,
combine it all in a bowl. Add the crushed fish food. Disolve the gelatine
in a little water(as little as possible) then also add. Mix thoroughly.
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Spread the mix evenly on the trays
at around 1/4" (5mm) thickness. Place two layers of baking paper over the
mix and keep repeating until the tray is full. Allow to set up in the
refrigerator, when firm score with the back of a knife into equal serving
size portions. Freeze. Once frozen break portions up and store in a
container in the freezer.
You can add or not add whatever you like but avoid corn; it is
indigestable to fish and causes problems.
Any other ideas on this recipe would be good.

My wife loves to cook. I wonder how she would react if I gave her these recipes............:p

it wasn't medicine, it was stuff that has tee tree oil in it, I forget what it was, I thought that was it, but of course I do make mistakes.

I have made my own melafix before with great results.

I took a 2l pop bottle and filled it with distilled water. I then added a 20ml bottle of melaleuca oil. Make sure you shake really well before using.

Wheni first heard about a DIY recipe for melafix i was worried that any homemade melafix would leave a "oil slick" on the top of the water. I have never had this problem though. Jsut make sure its properly shaken before using it and have lots of water movement on the water's surface.

I have to emphasize the little water as possible or else you will have trouble having the mixture stick together nice.

You can also try using agar agar gelatin. Its an algae based gelatina dn seems to work better and it better for the fish too. I tried 2 times to make DIY food with regualr knox gelatin and both times failed(didn't set up at all). The agar powder works like a charm

Yeah, agar gels much better and is plant based I believe so digestion is not so hard rather than the protein based gelatin. If I used knox gelatin, I had to use at least 50 grams of the stuff and that is about 8 packets!!! My recipe is for cichlids, which is high in protein containing:
1 lb of whole shrimp
1 lb of frozen green peas
1 tsp of Spirulina Powder (enhances blue/green colors)
and 5 drops of liquid vitamin (CichlidVital by TetraAqua)
