I have read my share of info about algae and tank balance and all and frankly thought I had things under control in my 4 1/2 month old 75g. But an early problem that has never really gone is getting on my nerves. Older leaves, especially lysimachia and Ulvaceous and hydrocotyle (all broader leafed specimens)get a low-growing almost slime-like spotty brownish red algae on them that really detracts from their look. The leaves live and stay around until I tire of the look. SAEs graze but never really dent it.
Is this another scourge that will go away if I fine tune the nutrient balances to another decimal point or two? If I remove all the affected leaves at once are my chances better of avoiding a recurrence?
