Red Cherry Shrimp and Driftwood

I have some Mopani driftwood in a planted aquarium that despite several hours of boiling, still leaches tannins into the water. Red cherry shrimp were recently added to the tank and seem to become inactive toward the end of the week, right before I perform a water change. I believe the shrimp might be sensitive to brownish acidic water. Has anyone experienced anything similar with this driftwood?
 
I don't think it is the driftwood causing the problem. I have cherries in softwater tanks and they are fine.
 
i havnt checked since the RCS were added. I'll have to test before the next water change
 
I bought a batch of 11 RCS for a 10 gal planted aquarium. Two, maybe three have died but the rest seem to be doing fine. The driftwood is certainly leaching tannins but from what i have read RCS like the water slightly acidic.

I beleive driftwood will make the water softer, not sure about the pH.
 
i have never heard of driftwood in an appropriate tank(ecosphere) doing harm unless it came from an impure environ... tannins/tint.. if anything are beneficial i thought
