i have had red claw crabs for quite a while now. They do need salt in their tank to thrive, although they can be kept in freshwater, but will not live as long or as healthy. They will eat about any kind of food, mine enjoy shrimp pellets also. they will eat and grab any fish they can, usually the sick ones. i had one carrying a clown loach around. the clown was pretty sick from ich / medicine and didn't make it but the clown was like twice the size of the red claw crab. They DO need access to air. i have a floating island with some vines leading up to it. They also are escape artist, if you have a hole in your hood and any airlines, powercords, etc... they Will get out. and if they do and can't get access to water they will die. they will mold every few months and leave a shell behind that looks exactly as they do, i though mine cloned first time i saw this, during this stage after molding, they will need plenty of places to hide until their new ektoskeleton hardens. Also i tried to put one in my brackish tank w/ my puffer fish, the crab was about his size. my puffer went straight for it and devoured it piece by piece. So that's a big no no if you have predator fish thats diet consist of invertabrats
