I'm not too sure, but I have heard as early as 4". Ive been kind of wondering the same thing for my devil and some terrors. Do you have any other fish in the tank with it. I have been told that the hump developing is as much dependent on the fish feeling that he is a dominant fish in the tank, as it is that he is a male.
