ok my local petshop has these bettas imported from thailand, i saw these pair called red dragons, they only have small pointed tails and the fish are smaller than the regular bettas, the shop owner said its a new breed of bettas, and the tag price for the pair is $49.95. anyone heard about these bettas? both are red colors by the way hehe ( i guess thats why they called it red dragons) both the female and the male are smaller than a regular female bettas.

sounds like a spade tail betta.

I been looking for one of these.

nope it dosen't look like a spade tail, both male and females has short pointed tails and it doesnt spread like the regular bettas, this picture is like those bettas im talking about, but i never notice the blue patch on the side of thyere bodies

Do they really do that?

Wow - somehow i got so used to "normal" bettas - my brain tells me that is either a betta with cut fins or severe case of fin rot. :)

Do they really cut fish's fins to try to sell them as something else? What kind of store would sell them? :rant2: What kind of breeder would do that???

They are wild caught B. Brownorum http://iglnl.netfirms.com/Artikelen/Betta_coccina_artikel/betta_coccina_artikel.htm

Dont like the look of the clamped tail though in the pic posted here... He isnt ill, but rather annoyed...

Re the Red Dragon thing, it is a varient of Plakat Here is a good pic of what it should look like http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwbettashmp&1143117075
No Betta should ever have a pointy, spade tail... Buddy is smokin weed if he thinks the pair is worth $45
I had on opprotunity to buy some of these last year... kinda regret turning it down now lol
