What is the water quality like? Can you post the test results? How big a tank is it? What's it in the tank with. If you could answer these questions, maybe someone here can help. It wasn't in the same tank as the betta with popeye, was it?

ALthough it could be sign of problems but it could also be normal.
Provided your water is ideal condition for rainbow, check for increase in gill movements.

"hanging up side down near the fillter" doesn't sound good. I suspect a bacterial infection myself. Do you have a tank you can isolate the fish into?

Water quality suspected first with the fin and skin issue hardness? Ph? Take a good sized sample to a shop but use a container whichh NOT been run through the dishwasher. Lots of stabilizers in the detergent which could leave residue and afford effected resulted. I try to use syringes. Also check your water source used for water changes. What do the gills of the other fish look like?

not the water test it ok my water soft ph 7-6 thats alright for him all other fish alright used anti internal bacteria in the tank see if it cleers it up

i have an albino rainbow shark that likes to hang out in an upside down vertical position behind one of the filter intakes every so often. this itself in your shark could be normal behaviour but the inflamed gill definitely needs some attention. is there anything in the tank he could have snagged his gill on? is it just one gill or are both affected?

i'd be doing extra large volume water changes, daily if you can, for at least a week to see if the extra clean water helps his gill to heal up. if it still looks red or inflamed or has gotten worse then you need to look into meds, most likely something in the anti-bacterial category.

tested the water ok my water is soft ph alright for him gills moving one side only got it using anti internal bacteria all other fish alright see wot happens

tested water ok ammonia o nitrite o nitrate o ph 7-6 alright my water soft one side only got it useing anti internal bacteria see wot happens might whack off rocks or been fighting all other fish alrite read in care sheet sometimes they do that maybe he thinks hes vampire lol.
