help
I have two tanks, one I had is a the 120 gallon set up as a community tank, with red forrest jewels, convicts, several bristle nose cat fish, and 2 pairs of other varieties that I wouldnt have a clue what they are, several days a go, much to my delight, a pair of jewels laid a couple of hundred eggs and the male was busy doing his business!!! the next day while I was at work, my wife called me to tell me that one of my convicts was eating the eggs, my wife tried in vain to keep the convicts away, but failed. I have noticed today 2 pair of jewels coloured up nicly and looking at the same nesting place, so I removed all but the cat fish out of the tank, appart from someone telling me I'm an idiot, can some one tell me how frequently they will breed, or have I go my hopes up after only a week?
Any advice on the time between broods would be appreicated
Any other advice on breeding and raising red jewels would be appreicated, having moved all other fish out they now seem to be less interested ans tend to hid, so I put a gourami in the tank, and that seems to have brought them out of hiding?
They havent laid eggs again since so I have put all the jewels back in the same tank in case I accidently split up the orrigional pair, any further advice woudld be appreicated
I've added a third tank only a 2 foot by 1 foot bu 1 foot, for any fry in they ever decide to breed again!
I've even invested in special deviders I cvan put in the tank to split it up and allowing full water flow and filtering in the event they do lay again but nothing yet!
even did a 40-50% water change the other day to see if that helped, I read some were that doing that can triger them into spawning again, have also tried dropping the temp of the tank a degree or so, and uping it a degree or so, but still nothing, the female doesnt appear interested in the same area any more she digging in the grtavel around the area about 6 inches away, is that a good sign???!!!!
two of the tanks are 100gallon tanks tanks and a 20 gallon set aside for the fry if they ever breed again, when you say each par need their own tank, did you have a 100 gasllon in mind, I also have purchased some special plastic mesh that I can partition part of the tank of too, eg the pair that are looing at breeding, are right up one end of the tank, so I could put a partition in giving them their own one or or so tank so to speak!
Any more advice would be appreicated, as another female is starting to colour up!
Any advise at all, any!!!!!
