Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse

Anyway, I got one yesterday at the LFS. Paid less than half of the price on that link above.

Pretty typical fairy wrasse. Easily spooked & bullied, and VERY good jumpers...be sure to keep a tight lid on the tank. If yours is colored like the one in the link you provided, don't expect it to last. That intense coloration is only found on "supermale" individuals that are the most socially-dominant fish in the school. (Fairy wrasses, like anthias, school in large harems with a few beautiful supermales, a number of subdued subordinate males, and a slew of comparatively plain females. All are hermaphrodidic and change gender as necessary as they move up or down the social ladder). The bright coloration is only evoked by the social pressure of advertising dominance, and outside of its harem the coloration tends to fade to that of a subordinate male or even a female. Still, a very nice fish at a good price!

mine is very close to the link.....colors are bright.

Instead of a green body it is a bright blue....
I tricked him into eating as soon as he entered the tank.
I fed my clowns and the frensy they displayed got the fairy wrasse to eat also....brine....
a good start

Be sure to feed it a much more nutritionally complete diet. I learned recently that Wrasses can get the annoying and ugly Head and Lateral Line Erosion. I got a 5 inch Lunare Wrasse for 5 bucks from this guy that brought him in due to HLLE. I have never had a problem with HLLE due to the varied diet I feed my guys. I feed Formula One, Formula Two, Prime Reef, VHP Formula, and Spiralina Algae. Also dried veggies by Julian Sprung. I also just got an adult Imperator Angel (5 inches but has adult coloration) for $40 due to HLLE. My 209 is turning into a HLLE recovery tank of fish from other people!

thanks for the diet info. Going to make a trip after work to the LFS. :)

I just fed some brine and the wrasse was all over it. Already eating well. I owe that to the clarki.....
