someone posted on here that Pacus can bust tanks, has any one ever had a red pacu? and is it true they can bust through tanks. ive heard they can break heaters from swimming and knocking them into the glass and such, but can they really break through glass????

I would hazard a guess that the person wasn't actually telling you that they'd "bust through the glass", but that a Pacu is referred to lovingly as a "tankbuster", a fish that gets gigantic and people buy them at the lfs because they're cute or interesting or whatever and have no idea the monster they'll grow up to be...

Meaning that a 55 gallon tank is no place for a Pacu since they get like, well, huge... Some people say they need at least 250-300 gallon tanks.

You might as well sell that 55 and get at least a 180 if you want to keep those Pacu's for any length of time. Chalk up one more fish that should never be kept outside of a zoo.

The only fish I've ever seen that actually busted through tank was a red snake head at an aquarium/personal fish show in South Carolina.

This man kept leaning against the glass of the tank (it was a 75 gal) and the snake head was actually lunging at him, and when the man realized it, he actually started taunting the fish. Can you believe that idiot? Well anyways, the snake head came so quickly that it broke the glass and accomplished its mission. People had to kill and behead the fish to remove it from the screaming man's arm.

A pacu though, I wouldnt worry about it too much. Although I wouldnt ever put one in a 55.

I have never seen any fish crack glass before.
