Would I be safe in guessing the ingredients in the "media" are sugar and yeast? If so, couldn't I make my own recharge for this system with my own sugar and yeast?

So, I make a solution of sugar and yeast (easy enough as my husband bakes bread all the time ;o). Save some money! I do actually have a second "unit" to put in since I have these on a 55 long and they are "rated" for 40g

My plants are doing beautifully! I wish I had taken "before" pix. Everything is growing well. My fish (2 Pearl Gourami) are REALLY skittish, though. They hide at the top near one of the heaters all the time. The male REALLY tries to jump out of the tank if I come near, even at feeding time. Maybe I should add a couple of other fish. I recently took 2 Angels out as they were spawning (into a 37). The Gourami are the only fish in the 55g. They have lots of snail company. Hitch hikers on the plants, I presume. Will have to address the snails soon. Some pond, some Ram's Horns.

I read another post that said fish probs may be due to over ferting. I have been adding Kent 2x weekly. Maybe I should cut back to 1x weekly for a bit and see if the fish do better. And, yes, I do weekly water changes, 50% +/-.

Since this is my first tap at a planted tank I didn't want to go whole hog. Honestly, the Red Sea sys seems to be working well. I do have a second to add to the tank. Since adding the Red Sea my plants have really grown. I turn off at night. Tank is in a spot where it gets south east natural light, plus I have good plant lighting...don't ask me what right now!
