I have had a planted tank for almost a year now. Its a 29 gallon with about 1.5 watts of light per gallon. It has some swords, anubias, crypts and java fern. Nothing very demanding. I use root tabs and some occasional excel. I have lots of bba growth.Curiously it seems to come and go. I purchased a red sea co2 bio system a few months ago but because the bba seemed to be waning at the time have just now have gotten around to putting it on the tank. Instructions say to wait 24hrs. It is now past that and no co2 production. Opened the bottle and looked at it. It is a bit yeasty smelling but no active fermentation.
What kind of experiences have others had with this system?
I assume the yeast may be dead. Is that common?
I do plan to use a DIY mix with this in the future.
Also the power head on this thing seems quite under powered. Anyone modify the system? I assume I can use bread yeast to get this thing started. Is another type of yeast better? I make beer and wine so I think there is some of those kinds of yeast in the house if they are better.

are you sure the water temp was right? Yeast can be touchy. I have 3 red seas running right now, 1 ea on 29, 29, 36bf

Water temp was fine, it was old yeast. Added a bit of wine yeast and it is starting to work.
